Heart and Soul - The Review

It seemed to take an age to arrive, as trains often do, but the Anthony Ramsdale Love Train finally landed at the Whelley Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Friday 22nd of October.

There was a little bit of nervous tension on the day of the event, nobody knew for sure how many would attend this inaugural fundraiser and the tickets ordered online were far outnumbered by donations.

I picked Finton up after his Batmobile had lost it’s engine just a couple of days earlier and we said we would be happy if 150 turned up even though I had confidently told the club we expected 200 when I booked the room. We arrived at the club just as Bernard & Shelia were struggling to carry the mountain of raffle prizes from their car and together we made our way into the empty concert room. Well empty apart from Martin, Tony & Andy, the DJ’s had already set up their equipment and were spinning some records to an audience of two, Ann Mundey and Rob Barlow. Sean appeared minutes later with his box of soul.

Anthony Ramsdale Appeal Update

Appeal Update 23/10

The Soul Night at Whelley Ex-Servicemen’s Club turned out to be a bigger success than anybody could have hoped for when we started the appeal.

Around 250 people turned up on the night and auctions of various items including signed merchandise donated by the Latics, donations made online through our PayPal link on this site, and other fundraising activities, the total raised at the end of last night’s event stands at an incredible £2330.

The generosity of the people of Wigan has been overwhelming, and you have the heartfelt thanks of Anthony’s family and everybody connected to Latics United. To achieve such a result in less than a month is incredible.

Thanks to you all.

A full account of the Soul Night will be posted later this week.

About us

Latics United is a collective of Wigan Athletic websites and organisations. The original aim wad to get a stand at the (then) JJB Stadium named after the club's original ground, Springfield Park. This campaign was extremely successful, and resulted in the West Stand of the stadium being called The Springfield Stand.

What We do

Latics United exists simply to try and give support when, and where, it's needed. Our current campaign is The Anthony Ramsdale Appeal, details of which can be found in the news items on the site
